Job Title: Butchery and Kitchen Assistant

Reports to: Head Butcher and Head Chef

Location: Peterley Manor Farm, Great Missenden

Contract: Permanent contract, minimum 30 hours per week, includes weekends and some Friday evenings

About the Role

We are looking for a passionate and hands-on team member to join us in a truly hybrid artisan food role, working across our butchery, kitchen and deli.

This is an exciting opportunity to build real skills in a farm-to-fork environment – learning traditional butchery, seasonal kitchen preparation and high-quality deli service within an award-winning farm shop.

You will work closely with our Head Butcher, who specialises in full carcass butchery using locally sourced, grass-fed meat with a strong zero-waste ethos. You’ll also support our Chefs as we expand our seasonal offering, including produce from our developing kitchen garden.

You can also be trained in artisan cheese and wine and support on the deli and in the production kitchens.

This is not a standard hospitality role – it’s a chance to learn craft skills across multiple artisan food disciplines.

The Role

You will:

  • Assist with butchery preparation and knife work (training provided)
  • Support full carcass breakdown and meat preparation
  • Help with kitchen prep, seasonal food production and breakfast and lunch services
  • Serve and support on the deli counter when required
  • Maintain exceptional hygiene and food safety standards
  • Work flexibly across departments, filling key operational gaps

Who This Role Would Suit

  • Someone early in their food career who wants to learn traditional craft skills
  • A deli or kitchen assistant looking to broaden their experience
  • A slightly more experienced candidate keen to develop further in butchery or chef skills

Previous experience is welcome but not essential – we are happy to train the right person with the right attitude.

Career Development

This role offers genuine progression opportunities, including:

  • Structured training in butchery skills
  • Exposure to full carcass preparation
  • Deli and cheese counter training
  • Chef experience and training
  • Potential pathway into specialist butchery or senior food production roles

For the right person, this could develop into a long-term artisan food career.

We’re Looking For Someone Who Is:

  • Passionate about high-quality, farm-to-fork food
  • Hardworking, reliable and physically capable
  • Comfortable working in chilled environments
  • Flexible and happy to work weekends
  • Eager to learn and grow
