We are looking for an experienced and meticulous bookkeeper/accountant to join our family-run, farm-based business. They will be managing our day-to-day accounts and finance requirements. The business comprises various departments: Farm Shop, Cafe & Events, Plant Nursery, PYO and Christmas Trees.

The position is part-time (approx. 15 hours a week). We would consider some work from home hours but it would be primarily based from our farm office on-site. Days of the week are flexible.

Essential:

  • Experienced with Quickbooks accounting software.
  • Experienced and confident with undertaking monthly payrolls.
  • Proficient with Excel.

Desirable:

  • Applicants have experience working in a multi-departmental retail business which processes a large number of supplier bills.
  • ACCA/AAT/ other relevant bookkeeping qualifications.

Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Accounting for two companies: one trading and one a holding company.
  • Manage the sales ledger, ensuring income streams are accurately split by department.
  • Managing supplier invoices and supplier statement reconciliation. There will be an assistant in place to help with supplier bill processing.
  • Multiple bank reconciliations on a daily and monthly basis.
  • Managing expenses and ensuring correct cost-centre allocation within accounts.
  • Cash allocation and reconciliation of petty cash.
  • Working with the management team to create annual budgets and projections.
  • Monthly management accounting and preparation of management reports.
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns on a quarterly basis for a VAT group.
  • Running monthly payroll in-house for up to 70 employees.
  • Monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • CT61 returns and completion of various government body surveys.
  • Liaising with the business accountant to implement ongoing requirements and ensure accounts/supporting reconciliations are ready on a timely basis for year-end.

  • Strong accountancy background.
  • Attention to detail, committed to accuracy with a strong work ethic.
  • Discreet with excellent communication skills, happy to join a small but busy team within a growing rural business.
