Peterley Manor Farm, Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire

Minimum 35 hours per week, with flexibility to work more, including weekends | Competitive hourly rate, plus benefits

We’re looking for a practical, reliable and enthusiastic Assistant Butcher to join our growing butchery team at Peterley Manor Farm.

Our in-house butchery is at the heart of our award-winning Farm Shop. We buy grass-fed and free-range livestock from trusted local farms, break down whole carcasses in-house and prepare every cut by hand, from roasting joints and dry-aged steaks to handmade burgers and sausages. We launched the butchery last year, sales have already grown significantly, and there’s much more to come.

Working alongside our Head Butcher, you’ll develop your full carcass butchery skills and help supply our counter, our award-winning onsite restaurant The Barn Kitchen, and our deli and production kitchen. This is a hands-on opportunity for someone who takes pride in their work and wants to grow with a team that values quality, craftsmanship and making the most of every animal.

The Role

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the Head Butcher with day-to-day butchery, including carcass breakdown, cutting, trimming and portioning.
  • Preparing and presenting high-quality meat for the counter to Peterley’s standards.
  • Making handmade burgers, sausages and other butchery products, including homemade marinades developed with our chefs.
  • Helping supply The Barn Kitchen and our deli and production kitchen, from meat for pies, pork pies and sausage rolls to bones for broths and soups.
  • Helping manage stock and rotation, working efficiently to maximise yield and minimise waste.
  • Maintaining excellent standards of food hygiene, food safety, storage and labelling.
  • Giving customers friendly, knowledgeable service and advice at the counter.

Who We’re Looking For

This role would suit someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work and cares about where their food comes from.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Previous butchery experience, or experience working with fresh food in a professional environment.
  • An interest in local, grass-fed and free-range produce, and a keenness to learn full carcass butchery.
  • A good understanding of food hygiene and safe working practices.
  • A reliable, hardworking and positive approach, with good attention to detail.
  • The ability to work well independently and as part of a close-knit team.
  • Availability to work weekends, and flexibility to work additional hours when needed.

Above all, we’re looking for someone who takes pride in what they do, is keen to learn and develop their skills, and understands the importance of quality and consistency.

Why Join Peterley?

Peterley Manor Farm is an independent, family-run business with a passion for great food, quality produce and supporting local suppliers. Our Farm Shop brings together homegrown, seasonal and carefully sourced products from over 100 suppliers, alongside our own in-house butchery and deli.

We’re a growing business with a hands-on team. You’ll work with excellent ingredients, learn from an experienced Head Butcher and have plenty of scope to grow and develop as the butchery grows.

Our team benefits include:

  • Staff discounts across the Farm Shop and wider business.
  • Discounted gym membership.
  • Discounts on selected seasonal events.
  • Staff parties and team events.
  • NEST workplace pension.

If you enjoy working with quality produce and want to be part of a team that cares about what it does, we’d love to hear from you.
