Alongside team leadership and customer service, you will support stock control, EPOS management, buying, merchandising and seasonal promotions. This is a varied role for someone who enjoys being at the heart of a busy retail environment and takes pride in keeping both the shop floor and behind-the-scenes operations running brilliantly.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Shop Floor Operations

  • Support the Retail Operations Manager in the day-to-day running of the Farm Shop.
  • Lead, motivate and support the shop floor team, providing a visible management presence throughout the day.
  • Take responsibility for the Farm Shop in the Retail Operations Manager’s absence.
  • Maintain excellent standards of customer service, product knowledge, presentation and merchandising.
  • Support staff training and development and help coordinate daily team priorities.
  • Deal confidently with customer queries and operational issues.
  • Support opening, closing and cashing-up procedures.

Stock Control & Store Rooms

  • Maintain strong stock control across the Farm Shop, including regular stocktakes and cycle counts.
  • Oversee the organisation and management of store rooms and back-of-house stock areas.
  • Ensure deliveries are efficiently received, checked, stored and replenished onto the shop floor.
  • Monitor stock availability, rotation, wastage, overstock and slow-moving lines.
  • Work with the Retail Operations Manager and Buying team to maintain appropriate stock levels.

EPOS, Buying & Reporting

  • Support the day-to-day management and accuracy of the EPOS system, including new products, pricing and promotions.
  • Work closely with the Buying team to implement new ranges, product changes and launches.
  • Run and review regular sales and wastage reports, highlighting trends and areas requiring action.
  • Help ensure accurate product and stock information is maintained across the business.

Merchandising & Seasonal Promotions

  • Support the planning and delivery of seasonal promotions and key retail trading periods.
  • Create and maintain attractive, commercially focused displays.
  • Ensure promotions are correctly implemented across EPOS, signage and the shop floor.
  • Identify opportunities to increase sales through merchandising, product positioning and seasonal activity.

Standards & Compliance

  • Maintain excellent operational standards across the Farm Shop, deli, cheese, produce and back-of-house areas.
  • Ensure procedures relating to food safety, health & safety, stock, cash handling and security are followed.
  • Champion Peterley’s values around quality, seasonality, local sourcing and excellent customer experience.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous retail supervisory or management experience is essential.
  • A confident, positive team leader with excellent customer service skills.
  • Highly organised, proactive and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
  • Good commercial awareness and an understanding of sales, stock and wastage.
  • Confident using EPOS systems and spreadsheets, or able to learn new systems quickly.
  • Hands-on, with strong attention to detail and a willingness to take ownership.
  • An interest in food, seasonality and high-quality independent retail.

Experience within a farm shop, food hall, independent retailer or premium food environment would be advantageous. Knowledge of deli, cheese, fresh produce or speciality food is desirable but not essential.

Working Pattern & Package

45 hours per week, Sunday–Thursday, with Friday and Saturday as the usual days off.

We would also consider 4 days per week, with salary calculated pro rata.
