Woods, Fields & Farm: A Summer Circular Walk from Peterley A scenic route that takes you from the farm, through woodlands, open countryside, and quiet lanes—ideal for a summer weekend ramble. Expect muddy stretches, tree-lined trails, and views across the Chilterns.
Route Details:
Start: Farm Car Park, Peterley Manor Farm
Distance: 1.57 miles (Approx. 45 minutes) Terrain: Woodland, fields, gravel and some road walking Footwear: Boots essential, especially after rain Dog Friendly: Yes (on lead through livestock areas)
Directions:
Leave the Car Park Head west along the hedgerow beside Peterley Lane. Pass the white cottages on your right and continue along the footpath past the Christmas tree fields.
Into the Woods At the edge of the woodland, turn left. Shortly after, take the pedestrian gate on your right to enter the woods. *Please note: This section can get very muddy—save for dry days and wear sturdy boots.*
Through the Trees Continue through the boggy stretch (it’s worth it!). Once the trail opens up, take a left and wind through the trees. Fork right at the junction and look out for a kissing gate on your left, leading into an open field.
Across the Field Stay alongside the woods to your left and follow the clear path through the field (horses may be grazing here).
Onto Heath End Road Head through the next gate and take the narrow path between houses. You’ll emerge onto Heath End Road. Turn left and follow the pavement. When it ends, continue a short way until you spot a footpath and wooden gate on the left.
Final Field & Farm Return Take the gate and walk diagonally across the field to another gate—this leads you to Peterley Avenue. Turn left and follow it back to the farm car park. You’ll pass the Barn Kitchen—perfect timing for a coffee or brunch stop
This route gives you a little bit of everything. Forest calm, sweeping fields, and a satisfying post-walk treat at the farm.
Save this for your next visit and bring your boots!
