The Barn Kitchen opened on the 9th November 2021 and is the next step in the Peterley journey.
In 2014, eldest Brill daughter Katy returned to the family farm after working as a private chef for several years. She had hatched the idea of opening a pop-up café in a Mongolian yurt on the farm for the summer months- and on 6th June 2014 the Wild Strawberry Café opened its doors for the first time. The yurt quickly gained a reputation for quirky, pretty surroundings and great food, all homemade using only the best local and seasonal ingredients. Far more popular than anyone ever imagined, the ‘pop-up’ never really ‘popped down’ and continued as our permanent café for over 7 years- with only a brief pause in the depths of winter, and when it had the occasional argument with a storm (thanks Doris!)
The yurt was loved by all and was not only our café but the venue for hundreds of private parties and events over the years. However, it became clear that a slightly hardier and larger café was desperately needed onsite; a building to enable a better year-round dining experience, reliable work for our brilliant staff and to avoid the constant panic during the British winters that our café might just ‘blow away’ one day!
And so, after a few twists and turns in the road, not to mention the C word, finally our long-awaited Barn Kitchen is ready to welcome its first guests. A converted tractor barn full of reclaimed materials and overlooking the quiet farm fields, this new venue is full of rustic charm and is the perfect hideaway spot. Unlike our now-retired yurt venue, the barn will be open all year round, with cosy corners and a stunning indoor/outdoor dining area.
Our menus have always, and will always, seek to showcase the best of Chilterns produce, changing frequently to reflect the seasons. Our chefs are busy making themselves at home in our beautiful new kitchen and our new menu is full of what we do best… thoughtfully sourced ingredients in simple but delicious dishes.
